I just got back from a trip to Northland. This book was referenced throughout the trip (8 days on the road). I was quite disappointed by the content of this lonely planet edition. It seemed that many recommendations were taken from trip advisors top rated. If I'm on the road for a week, I don't want to make a detour to a restaurant only to walk away after realizing I should have brought a sport coat and wingtips. After visiting several of the the recommendations, we decided to create out own itinerary, and were much more impressed with what was overlooked by the LP editors.Disclaimer: I referenced Californias Best Trips, and was very impressed (Which is why I put my faith in this book).My copy is currently in a recycling bin at an Auckland petrol station. If you want a unique trip, don't use this for Northland, look elsewhere.
A great help in putting together an itinerary for exploring New Zealand via road trips. But you still need to get their guide books for more detailed information about cities, restaurants, accommodations and points of interest. Comes with pretty good maps, so don't waste your money on their stand-alone NZ map.
