I've been a musician my whole life - playing guitar mostly and some piano by ear. I'm well-accomplished but have never actually learned to read music. I have tried so many books over the years to finally teach me how to play piano and read music correctly but would always give up because it seemed way too complicated and "not fun." Then I found this guy. Wow!!! All of his books are written in such an easy to understand, logical format that finally makes sense and gets to the heart of the matter. He points out clearly where each part is going and you learn many tips and hints along the way, as opposed to just being told to memorize this or study that. And then there's his friendly, light-hearted style of writing that's well-organized and clear, which is what keeps you engaged. I rarely write reviews but it's obvious the amount of labor and time Mantius has put into his e-books and you can acquire them ALL for less than the price of one piano lesson with a teacher. And you get more than the e-book because there are links to further study of youtube with Mantius himself. So if you do the math - one year of lessons at the average of $45 per week is $2340 a year. I purchased all of his ebooks on piano and music theory for about $25. I'd say the info in his books covers approx. two years of lessons. Anyway I highly recommend all of his books.
Very easy to understand and we'll explained. Not boring because it's hands on, with the piano. I have learned a great deal from this. I took lessons for 20 years, but chords, especially dominant 7th and half diminished were never explained to me. I now understand my intermediate scores so much better. I've not finished this book, yet but, it has made a world of difference in my memorization so far.
This is such a helpful guide! I have been a music reader for years but had a gaping hole in my grasp of chords and keys. This has been amazing! It has opened up a new dimension in music for me! I would highly recommend this to everyone! To the author, thank you for sharing your expertise in such a clear way.
I feel this is a great reference on chords. Most songs are not written in scale form and chords are actually the building blocks. I took piano lessons as a kid and with the classical approach to music the focus is all on music theory and reading sheet music, while practicing mary had a little lamb and hoping to one day be able to play Mozart.What I like most about this book is the way it ties together the circle of 5ths, with all of the scales as well as the diagrams to give a visual reference.Very easy to understand if you are already familiar with music theory and hit a learning curve.
I do the piano as a pass time and just couldn't figure out about the chords and scales, but now feel so much more comfortable. Thank you.
Easy to understand. Excellent for beginners and anyone wanting a good foundation in piano. Looking forward to more of this uncomplicated method of learning music.
