This book is a great read and an essential reference resource for beginners and experts alike. Far more than an introduction, Dr. Yapko's well researched book is packed with information, anecdotes, instructions and even a demonstration DVD that are all very helpful for developing and honing hypnotic and therapeutic skills. This version added a lot of new material and was well worth purchasing even though I already had the 3rd edition. I enjoyed reading this book and am already using things that I learned from it in my practice. Dr. Yapko's book has that rare combination of being impressive (e.g., the transcripts and DVD show him for the world class therapist and hypnotist that he is) and instructive in a way that is easy for the reader to apply. I am a better thinker and a more inspired hypnotist from having read Trancework.
Excellent amazing book. I've read many books on hypnosis this is a clear simple balanced yet very insightful. At the end of every chapter are great thought provoking questions based on the chapter.
After reading many books written by amateurs, it was refreshing to read a scholarly work, that was, for me, easy to understand. I would consider this book, mandatory, for any serious student of hypnotism.
Good book to have for your collection
This review is not to address the content of the book. Michael Yapko has probably written the best book on hypnosis that you can buy. The content of the book is a solid 5 stars. I have read his previous edition of the book and was so impressed with the content that I looked forward to reading this updated edition. The problem I had was with the print and the cover of the book. The print was so light in color that it wouldn't be able to be read for long periods of time. It looked like it was blurry in some spots and too light throughout the book. The cover also had stains on it that shouldn't have been there. I returned the book as soon as I received it.
This book is not a how to guide. In fact if you're not familiar with how to do basic trance work this book will be confusing at times.This does offer keen insight into the ways that trance can be best used in Hypnotherapy. For instance the chapter going through trance phenomena explains in what circumstances it would be best to use said method.As a whole I would recommend the book as reference material to transition from basic to more in depth knowledge about hypnotherapy.
