This is a cute book and I thought it was appropriate for my 12 year old nephew that is currently fascinated by survival stories and situations. There are some good tips along with a good dose of humor, if you are getting this for someone that is looking for information about a large array of topics this one is a winner. In my quick skimming of the book before we wrapped it up as a gift I learned a little bit about surviving an alien invasion as well as confirming something I had only heard about bear attacks (still no practical experience there but I am considering that a good thing).
My 9 year old loves this book. I was afraid that he wouldn’t really look at it, but he’s been studying it and carrying it around with him daily. His only complaint is that it doesn’t give tips on how to survive sisters. Go figure.
My 7 yo grandson loves the book, but the price sticker on the back severely damaged the cover. They could not have picked a stronger glue on the sticker or a cheaper grade of material for the cover. Don't wipe off the cover with a damp cloth. The ink will come off too.I'd give the book 5-stars for content and zero stars for construction materials. Thus a generous average of 3 stars overall.
I purchased 5 copies of this when my son and his friends all graduated from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts.It's part serious, part fun, and sometimes truly hilarious.They all seemed to like it a lot, and I heard a few good laughs while they were reading it.My son still reads it sometimes even now for Troop stuff.
Picked this up on a whim for my 7-year-old and he loves it. He has been providing me with survival tips for two weeks straight. This is a refreshing change from having him tell me about Minecraft. :-)
This is one of the generations old "The boys..." and "The girls..." survival books. Exactly why I bought it. These books are all awesome! This generation of the series is updated too. Everything from how to survive zompoc to how to build a dugout canoe is covered. Very fun for my boy to read.
I bought this book for my stepsons. Growing up in a family where boy/girl scouts were important. My grandmother was a girl scout leader for a very long time and my mother became a troop leader too when I was little. when it came time for my stepsons to start I was told their mother didn't approve of the scouts so I have been doing my best to teach them some of the things that I learned over the years. This book is great. It tells you how to survive different things and it is just fun. It tells you how to survive something step by step and doesn't go into too much detail to confuse the boy reading.
My grandson loved it. He is ten, barely sits still for a minute but enjoyed this book immensely! I was hesitant to buy it but it ended up being the best of several books that I suspected might intrigue him.
My 9 year old loves this book so much! He's totally into survival strategies, and says that he now has a basic nderstanding of how to land an airplane or escape from a car underwater- not that any of this is impending! In fact, the book does a great job of not scaring kids, but rather presenting them with interesting scenarios. It also mixes in some silly survival scenarios to help keep things light. Reluctant readers would really get a kick out of this, and it would be a good addition to any third-grade classroom Reading library.
