I own three of Ina Garten's cookbooks and they are all my "go-to", "Hail Mary", "rock-star" treasures. In an age where we can look up any recipe in seconds, this, along with all of them, are still the cookbooks you need to have on hand. Okay, seriously, ANY of Ina Garten's cookbooks really do fit that category. She is honest, reliable, brilliant...perfect! Her recipes actually work. Her advice make sense. Wow! She makes me brave. Ina Garten is the Julia Child of this time period, and, I lived for Julia Child (no, I did have a "normal childhood, do not get me started, I just love food...don't judge, just eat...). You may look at the published date and think "oh no, this has passed its shelf life" NOPE! She gives more timeless, no-nonsense tips in one page than all the current ones on the market do on an entire website! Hurray, hurray, hurray! Bless you, Barefoot Contessa!
I love all her books. This is the only one I did not have, it contains so much info about parties as it means, but also getting togetherwith family and friends, good ideas, recipes and suggestions.
This is a must-have for your cookbook collection! I've watched Ina on Food Network for a while but this was the first cookbook of hers that I bought. There are beautiful pictures of every single recipe (yay!) and the recipes are so delicious! The low down on what I've tried:Shrimp salad - Even friends who don't like shrimp loved this salad. Very easy and so good!Chinese chicken salad - Great foundation recipe; added shredded cabbage, carrots and cilantro.Pasta, pesto and peas - A whole bowl of pasta pesto is normally too much of the same basil oil flavor for me, but this recipe makes it delicious and so easy to eat bowls and bowls of it! I added some sundried tomatoes for a little more zip.Lemon cake - One of the yummiest desserts EVER! Added a side of mashed raspberries but also great alone.Asian grilled salmon - It's a little on the salty side but the flavor is great.Grilled herb shrimp with mango salsa - Hands down, the best shrimp I've had at home, at a restaurant, anywhere! You'll be totally wowed! I didn't think the mango salsa was necessary at all though.Potato pancakes with caviar - I didn't add the caviar, but the pancakes with just the creme fraiche was super tasty!I've never been disappointed with any of Ina's recipes - she rocks!
Over the years, I've bought my fair share of cookbooks. So many, in fact, that when I moved- I gleaned my collection way down and sent a bunch to the local charity.I checked this one out from the library and used so many of the recipes that I finally broke down and bought my own copy! The recipes are simple to understand and have been used to entertain both family and friends. Lots of compliments and requests for recipes. I have not been disappointed and look forward to trying out more recipes soon.
I have all of Ina's books and they are my reference for all of my cooking.
I own all of the Barefoot Contessa Cookbooks. How can anyone go wrong with Ina Garten's recipes? It is impossible to goof with her easy to follow instructions, excellent ingredients and books!Looking forward to the delivery of her latest November 2012, "Foolproof" to add to my library.Parties is a wonderful collection of just the right dishes to serve at home or to bring to a friend's home. I've been cooking my way through her books, and have a very happy hubby to prove it! "Parties" is one of my favorites!I wouldn't hesitate purchasing this book. Cooking these recipes makes me look really good as a home cook to my family and friends, as they really enjoy what I serve!
A great reference book with many great ideas for entertaining for all seasons. She gives recommendations as to brands to try etc. As with all Barefoot Contessa cookbooks pictures and helpful hints were abundant. I am not an experienced cook but I found all of the recipes I tried very easy to follow and was pleased with the results.
I like Barefoot Cookbooks because they are simple and delicious. She always uses a minimum of ingredients unlike other cookbook authors. I also like her recipe lookup on her website. I have all her books. All I have to do is go to her website and type in a word or two of what I would like to cook and it will tell me which cookbook to look in. Love it!
