This math book is exactly what I have been looking for. It is a Christian curriculum and simple. It is easy for me to teach and explain to my child and she is having no issues with it. I love that it covers just what my child needs to know. I am not big on teaching a bunch of math that my child will never use in life. There are also many ways to teach critical and higher level thinking other than math. Math in America is not about the math, it is about teaching the child to think in a particular way. I will pass on that. I am trying to teach my children how to live in the real world and apply math to everyday situations as needed. This book is doing exactly that. I believe in a real life education. If my child was going into a filed where more challenging math would be required I would pick another program. For our needs this is perfect. It teaches the basics and then she can focus on music which is where she is gifted. I love this book and have no complaints.There are a few mistakes in the answer key. I believe the corrected key is available for fee on the publishers website. This was minor and no big deal. It did not take away from the text at all in my opinion.Most people don't use or remember most of the math they learned in school. Why waste so much of our short lives on it then? Teach your children how to learn and think and they can learn anything as needed. Anything you ever need to know can be found in a book if you have good reading comprehension skills. This book gives my child all the math they will need in every day life. It is simple and practical. It covers just enough of several math topics so that my child will be able to recall it if she needs it in college later. My daughter loves her math now. The tears are gone and she is motivated to do her work.If your child is advanced in math I would purchase a level ahead. At the same time they can just go through the book quicker and use it as review also.
I looked at lots of samples of different levels of this curriculum, and decided to try this for my daughter who seems to forget what she has learned in math. I like the methodology, copying definitions and making flashcards to remind you how to do things, the manipulatives included, and less problems, so they aren't bogged down or overwhelmed. I think hands-on practice and orally explaining what you're doing is a great way to remember what you learn. Now my 2nd grader wants to try it, too, so I just ordered him that.
My children love this math program. It has several hands on learning activities, making math practical. It is some what geared towards children who like to read. I love the approach to word problems and the encouragement of the students to create their own. Overall, this is a great program. I look forward to another year and future editions for upper level math - at least to 7 and 8. As a Canadian, it would be nice to also have editions that include the metric system and Canadian currency.
Love this new math book! Loosely CM, and not a ton of problems, which I love.
Overall this is a great Math book. I wish sometimes that there were more practice problems especially when starting a new concept but we can always create more practice problems ourselves.
This is a very weak math curriculum. The hands on portion consisted of a few recipes. Most of the stories had nothing to do with the lessons. I wanted to live it. Once it arrived, I was very disappointed.
Perfect we love them. It so comforting to know the topics are all being covered without staying on the same lesson days on end. The lessons are intertwined enough and set up to allow students to think and connect the dots without repetitious problems.
