The great Bobby Jones left several boxes behind in his old law offices where they gathered dust through the decades until Martin Davis gained access to them while researching his massive pictorial biography Bobby Jones: The Greatest of Them All. In one of those boxes, he discovered the golfing equivalent of King Tut's tomb: more than 100 photographs of Jones demonstrating the game's fundamentals--grip, woods, irons, sand, chipping, putting, and the lost art of the stymie--with explanatory notes attached in Jones' hand. Jones used the photos in a limited series of film strips that he sold in the '30s, but never got around to writing the book. (Interestingly, the enduring instructional he did manage to write--Bobby Jones on Golf--is, solid as it may be, sadly lacking in illustration.) Davis got the picture--and the pictures--and set out to rectify Jones' oversight. He immediately called Ben Crenshaw. Bobby Jones may be from a different era but his instruction is extremely valid today. Other than a few personal quirks like a narrow stance and a loosening of his grip at the top the principles of his swing are the same in the modern golf swing. Bobby learned his swing during the "hickory" shafts era so timing and tempo was very important. Ben Crenshaw complements Bobby's instruction by explaining Bobby's comments as they translate to the modern swing. An excellent book.
5 stars because it is a first edition. interesting insight....watched all vids available on you tube also.if you like the game and the early pioneers you have to get this...at the current price,a steal.
If your game is off track, this will do much to get you back to the simple fundamentals that will make the game fun again. It boils down to swinging! Not jabbing, hitting, punching, jerking, heaving, lurching, etc., etc. You'll appreciate the need for a relaxed swing of the clubhead for all shots from the wonderful insights of Jones and Crenshaw.

This is real good book for anyone who likes golf, to read and with a lot of pictures to look at. Real good instructions.
Really enjoyed hearing what such a great golfer thought.
This book is quite old and still as pertinent as it was when it was printed. Bobby Jones is a master teacher. The essays are wonderful to read.
Thrilled with the writings of Bobby Jones and the Ben Crenshaw commentary. Almost everything still applies to today's golf game.
