As the author of this book, I recommend against its purchase as of 2014. The book was originally published by Ancestry Publishing in 2008. Since then, Ancestry.com has added much more content but has also changed a great deal of its user interface. Ancestry Publishing sold its publishing business to Turner Publishing several years ago. That company has decided to release this book in a Kindle edition with a 2014 publication date. It contains the same material as the 2008 softcover edition, and much of that is out of date. I recommend that you not waste your money by purchasing this outdated publication. - George G. Morgan
I purchased this book and learned nothing from it that I could not find out right there on the ancestry.com website. I would never recommend it for the price they charge, not even to beginners. Anyone who has even the remotest experience with trying to create a family tree will find this book a 99% waste.
This book is good in as far as it goes.......but the most recent information was from 2008 and a there are a LOT of features and changes since then. I am surprised that they don't warn you how dated this book is and how in need of revision!A good book that describes the basics of Family Genealogy and how to use features of the website Ancestry.com but the newer features including the much more efficient SEARCH you will have to learn on your own.IT IS OVERDUE THAT THE AUTHOR PROVIDE A NEW EDITION,
the diagrams or examples were useless, so faded that you couldn't even read them so help at all, I want something that helps me, not fluster me. I was so hoping this would help me get around the sight, forget it.
The guide is a little outdated but overall it is good.
I have used this only a little. I was disappointed that I was not able to find the call center phone # in it. It also does not correspond exactly the the current version of Ancestry. However I have found it helpful. On line help is probably more current, but I like to have a book to consult. On line involves switching screens that I find to be a hassle.
Mistkenly ordered this, thinking it was the 3rd edition, of 2010, which is the one I had been waiting to have in stock for a very long time. Of what real use is this outdated "new" book??? It's like...why is is the old version even still available???? Just because it's what you've got on hand, I guess. My mistake, LOOK CAREFULLY, let the buyer beware!
